This is a tribute to my French heritage especially Brittany where I grew up and will always remain very close to my heart.
Its rugged landscape and wild coastline standing proud against the power of the sea.

Signet ring with Lapis Lazuli in recycled gold

Crafted from scratch!

I started with a block of wax and filed it until it looked like a ring.
Then I sent it to the caster, who used the client’s old gold.
When I got the ring back, it still had two sprues attached. I removed those, then filed and sanded everything all over again. After that, I fitted the stone and set the gem.
Quite nerve wracking, because I had to use quite some force to keep the lapis in place and stones can break.
Once the stone was set, I could file and sand some more, followed by a good polish and tadaa!
It’s been a while since I made a signet ring, and they’re definitely more difficult than they look. I absolutely love the outcome, and the colour of the lapis with the yellow gold is a match made in heaven.
If I were to create one for myself, I’d definitely go for a similar gem.
Too bad the lighting is so bad, can’t wait for winter to be over. Until then, you’ll just have to believe me.

So who wants a custom signet this year?

I really liked the phase before straightening the edge around the stone. It added some texture to the otherwise very clean look of the ring. Food for thought for a future piece!

I will make another ring from the remaining gold. For her partner.
This couple has been together for 40 years! Never officially married but decided this year they will give each other rings.
His will be completely different but made from the same metal. A mix of heirloom jewelry never worn which will finally get a precious purpose ✨

Garnet is a surprisingly large gemstone family, coming in many colours — though most people know the classic deep red ones. A piece made to bring a little warmth to the start of the year.
