New month, new jewelry! February’s birthstone is

New month, new jewelry!

February’s birthstone is Amethyst! This pretty purple gemstone is from the Quartz family.

This time I made a new pair of earrings. They are asymmetrical, one is a trillion and the other an oval. Both are made with a beautiful big deep purple stone.
They’re crafted in silver with a little diamond on the bottom, squished into a little melted gold nugget.
You know I’m not too big a fan of thin hooks, I prefer to hide the hole, so I made them pendants to wear on little hoops.

This amethyst was originally set in another piece of jewelry, which I melted down to create something completely new. From that gold arose this beautiful little bird, set with tiny diamonds (also recycled).
He sits proudly on that deep purple gem 💜
A little celebration of my client’s love for birds (yes, another bird lover, a real one!!) and her newfound love for brooches!
They’re so versatile: you can mix and match them, pin them wherever you want, and instantly add colour and fun to an outfit. They definitely reflect a bit of your personality!
And if this year’s Golden Globe party is anything to go by… they’re making a big comeback ✨

Last year, I made a few brooches and really wanted to create more. I had the ideas, but somehow ran short on working hours…
To start the year, one of my beloved customers asked me to craft a few new ones for her.
This piece is inspired by the one I made for her last summer, but this time in recycled gold with a fire opal. The original was crafted in silver with a brown-orange tourmaline (3rd slide).
I’ve always loved these mother-of-pearl shells, but initially had no idea what to make with them. Now I feel a little brooch serie coming 😆

Is 2026 going to be the real return of the brooch?
I like them. I actually wear mine almost daily.
Would you wear one too?

It’s kind of classic, but really elevates an outfit ✨
I made a few more for this lady, I’ll show you soon. Maybe you’ll fall in love with them too!

Signet ring with Lapis Lazuli in recycled gold

Crafted from scratch!

I started with a block of wax and filed it until it looked like a ring.
Then I sent it to the caster, who used the client’s old gold.
When I got the ring back, it still had two sprues attached. I removed those, then filed and sanded everything all over again. After that, I fitted the stone and set the gem.
Quite nerve wracking, because I had to use quite some force to keep the lapis in place and stones can break.
Once the stone was set, I could file and sand some more, followed by a good polish and tadaa!
It’s been a while since I made a signet ring, and they’re definitely more difficult than they look. I absolutely love the outcome, and the colour of the lapis with the yellow gold is a match made in heaven.
If I were to create one for myself, I’d definitely go for a similar gem.
Too bad the lighting is so bad, can’t wait for winter to be over. Until then, you’ll just have to believe me.

So who wants a custom signet this year?

I really liked the phase before straightening the edge around the stone. It added some texture to the otherwise very clean look of the ring. Food for thought for a future piece!

I will make another ring from the remaining gold. For her partner.
This couple has been together for 40 years! Never officially married but decided this year they will give each other rings.
His will be completely different but made from the same metal. A mix of heirloom jewelry never worn which will finally get a precious purpose ✨

Garnet is a surprisingly large gemstone family, coming in many colours — though most people know the classic deep red ones. A piece made to bring a little warmth to the start of the year.
